As AMF becomes more aware of her surroundings, her attention to TV is overwhelming. If there's a TV on she will find it, in reflections, through windows, around people anyway she can. Chelle read from several sources that in the early months of their lives TV can have an adverse affect on children, particularly the 5 mth to 14 mth period. So we try and keep her away from it, with some exceptions, notably football and Jian Ghomeshi. Last night were watching Modern Family and had Amelia in her ExerSaucer Ultra Evenflo Tm. Here's a picture from their website.
So your baby sits in the middle and is dazzled by incredible amount of stimulation surrounding her on all fronts. If the amount of flash isn't enough to wow her, then get this, the whole thing is on springs! Not only is your child blinded by shear over stimulation, but also dangling by the crotch and bouncing up and down in the middle of happy town (actually the instructions say to make sure that only her toes can touch and that she not be flatfooted, clearly an added frustration to the child). Then as if all of that wasn't enough.... the part she dangles from...swivels in a circle! Good Lord man! Imagine the possibilities. How could any child ever get bored. All for the low low price of $25 at a local consignment store.
While the inventor undoubtedly thought that this amount of stimulation would "educate" children around the world, all it really does is keep them deer-in-the-headlights fascinated so that parents can watch TV.
Our friends Adam and Ang call it the Circle of Neglect.

| Hey...Stop that. Let me turn that so you can't see the TV. |
| Sigh. |

We have the same CoN for Harlowe (yay Kijiji!) and it is the only reason that dinner ever gets on the table!
